A tireless advocate of the works of Franz Liszt, McDonald recently presented all-Liszt recitals in New Orleans, Dallas and New York to show Liszt as the ultimate Romantic. He is now looking into the endless diversity of works from composers who lived in the U.S.S.R.: from Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev to Schnittke and Gubaidulina.
